Vintage Molded Glass Clipper Ship Pitcher — Handled Tall-Ship Relief Jug

Mid-Century

Old-World Pressed Glass

A charming little handled pitcher in clear pressed glass, with a three-masted square-rigged tall ship molded in raised relief across both faces. The bulbous body, gently folded rim, and applied loop handle give it an artisanal, old-world feel, while a scatter of tiny seed bubbles and a faint green cast to the glass mark it as the product of a less mechanical age.

It came to us from a Hobbsville, North Carolina estate, one of a small group of glass pieces kept and enjoyed for years. At roughly seven inches tall it is a friendly, useful size — equally at home pouring cream or syrup at the table or holding a few cut stems on a sunny sill, where the pressed ship can catch the light. Unsigned.

Materials Clear pressed glass with a faint green tint and characteristic seed bubbles
Care Hand-wash in warm, mild, soapy water and dry with a soft cloth. Avoid sudden temperature changes and the dishwasher to protect the glass and its crisp relief.

Some objects earn their keep on charm alone. A three-masted tall ship rides across both faces of this little glass pitcher, its square sails and rigging pressed in raised relief straight into the mold. Hold it up to the light and the ship seems to sail right through the water — the age-of-sail romance that turns an everyday handled jug into something you actually want to look at.
