A jolly, roly-poly Santa Claus rendered in hand-painted wax — the kind of cheerful little Christmas candle that once brightened a mantel or holiday sideboard. He stands six inches tall in his classic red suit and snowy fur trim, a black belt with a gold buckle, green mittens folded over his belly, and a soft pom-pom tumbling from the tip of his cap. Best of all, he was never lit. The wick at the top of his hat is crisp and intact — this little fellow was always meant to be admired rather than burned, and he's been beautifully kept.

  • Material — hand-painted paraffin wax
  • Origin — gold foil "Made in China" sticker to the base
  • Provenance — from an estate in Louisburg, North Carolina
  • Condition — never lit, wick fully intact and unburned; complete and bright of color, well preserved. A charming holiday display piece.

Vintage Figural Santa Claus Candle — 6" Hand-Painted Never-Lit Christmas Decoration

Vintage, circa 1970s–1980s

Figural Christmas Candle

This cheerful little Santa is a molded figural Christmas candle, hand-painted in the classic colors of the season — a red suit trimmed in snowy white, a black belt with a gold buckle, and green mittens folded over a round belly. Standing six inches tall, he was made to be displayed rather than burned, and he has been kept exactly that way: the wick at the tip of his cap has never been lit. Figural candles like this were a beloved part of holiday decorating, produced in great cheerful variety from the 1970s into the 1980s. A gold foil "Made in China" sticker on the base marks his country of origin.

He came to us from an estate in Louisburg, North Carolina. We don't know the whole of his story — only that he was carefully saved, never lit and never damaged, and clearly meant to return to a shelf or mantel each December. That is exactly how we would send him on: a small, sweet piece of old-fashioned Christmas, ready to brighten someone's holidays for many more years.

Materials Molded paraffin wax, hand-painted in red, white, green and black with a gold foil belt buckle; natural-fiber wick, never lit.
Care Display only — please do not burn; this figural candle is meant to be admired, not lit. Keep out of direct sun and heat to protect its shape. Dust gently with a soft, dry cloth.

There's something irresistibly cheerful about a vintage figural Santa candle, and this little fellow is a perfect example. Roly-poly and grinning, he's molded in wax and hand-painted in all the colors Christmas ought to be — a bright red suit trimmed in snowy white, a wide black belt with a gleaming gold buckle, deep green mittens folded contentedly over his belly, and a soft pom-pom tumbling from the tip of his cap. His warm cream face, red button nose, and flowing white beard give him that classic, storybook Santa look that never goes out of style. He stands six inches tall — just the right size to perch on a mantel, tuck among the greenery on a sideboard, or anchor a little holiday vignette on a shelf. Candles like this were made to be seen rather than burned, and this one has clearly been treasured: the wick at the very top of his hat has never been lit, still crisp and intact after all these years. He came to us from an estate in Louisburg, North Carolina, and carries a small gold foil "Made in China" sticker on his base — the country-of-origin mark found on molded figural candles of this kind, which were popular from the 1970s into the 1980s. We'd keep him just as he was intended: as a display piece, brought out each December to add a little old-fashioned holiday cheer.
