HDRO-VR-0001
A matched pair of little bushel-basket wall pockets from HOMCO, molded to look like staved wood right down to the banded hoops and the rivet heads. The finish is a warm olive drab, drybrushed with antiqued gold and bronze so it catches the light the way real old metal does. Both are true twins from the same casting, marked HOMCO INC. 1989 on the back rim — pure home-party-era Americana, ready to hang and flank a doorway or brighten a hall.
  • Set of two matching pieces (identical castings, not a mirrored pair)
  • HOMCO / Home Interiors & Gifts, the Dallas home-party decor name
  • Marked HOMCO INC. 1989 in raised molded letters on the back rim
  • Molded resin with a faux-wood bushel-basket look — staved sides, banded hoops, molded rivets
  • Warm olive tone drybrushed with antiqued gold and bronze highlights
  • Half-round, flat-backed for wall mounting; pressed-fiberboard back with a center hang hole
  • About 7" high x 6.5" wide each
  • Made for dried botanicals, silk stems, or a small dry arrangement
Condition: Good vintage condition, both pieces. Crisp molded basketweave, some gentle softening to the gold-bronze finish and light wear to the backs, no chips or cracks — both structurally sound and ready to hang.

Vintage HOMCO Bushel Basket Wall Pockets — Set of Two Faux-Wood Resin Half-Baskets, Marked 1989

1989

Home-Party Americana

There was a time when decorating your home didn't mean a store at all. It meant an evening at a neighbor's house — someone hosted, a HOMCO consultant spread the catalog across the coffee table, and over cups of coffee you chose the pieces that would carry your rooms through the year. Home Interiors & Gifts built its whole business on those living-room gatherings, and for a good couple of decades it dressed half the homes in America one catalog party at a time. It's easy to picture this pair being chosen exactly that way: a matched set of little basket wall pockets, small enough to say yes to without a second thought, just right for flanking a doorway or warming up a bare stretch of hallway.

These two came out of a Hobbsville, North Carolina estate, and they carry that home-party warmth with them. Molded in resin to look like staved bushel baskets — banded hoops, rivet heads, a warm olive finish rubbed with antiqued gold — they're twins from the same casting, both marked HOMCO INC. 1989 on the back rim. Somebody hung them once with a particular wall in mind, filled them with dried stems, and let them do their quiet decorating for years. That's the whole charm of home-party Americana: it was never about grandeur. It was about a few honest pieces, chosen among friends, that made a house feel looked-after. These two are ready to do it again.

Materials Molded resin cast to mimic a staved wood bushel basket; warm olive finish drybrushed with antiqued gold and bronze; flat pressed-fiberboard back with hang hole.
Care Made for dry display — dried botanicals or silk stems, never live plants or wet soil. Dust with a soft dry cloth or brush; keep out of prolonged damp.

There was a stretch of years when decorating your home meant an evening at a neighbor's. Someone hosted, a HOMCO consultant laid out the catalog, coffee got poured, and you picked out a few pieces to carry your rooms through the season. Home Interiors & Gifts ran that whole warm, unpretentious operation out of Dallas, and for a couple of decades it furnished half the living rooms in America one catalog party at a time. This pair came off that catalog. Two little bushel-basket wall pockets, molded in resin to mimic staved wood — vertical planks, two banded hoops, a row of molded rivet heads, all finished in a warm olive drab and drybrushed with antiqued gold and bronze so it reads like something that spent a lifetime in a farmhouse mudroom. They're half-round and flat-backed, the kind of thing you hang to flank a doorway or wake up a plain stretch of hallway. Tuck in some dried wheat or a few silk stems and they earn their spot. They're twins in the truest sense — same casting, same finish — and both are marked HOMCO INC. 1989 in raised letters on the back rim, so there's no guessing what you've got. Being molded resin over a pressed-fiberboard back, they're built for dry display — dried botanicals and faux stems, not live plants or wet soil. That's how they were meant to be used, and it's why they've held up as well as they have.
