Franklin Mint "Garden of Jewels Imperial Egg" House of Fabergé Collector Plate — 8" Fine Porcelain
Circa Late 1980s–1990s
House of Fabergé Collector Plate
In the late 1980s and into the 1990s, the collector plate reached its golden hour — issued with a certificate and a serial number, made not for the table but for the wall or the cabinet. The Franklin Mint produced this one under license from the House of Fabergé, borrowing the romance of the Russian imperial court. At its center a jeweled egg in malachite green sits wrapped in gold trellis and floral clusters of seed pearl and ruby, crowned by a green cabochon finial and floating over a cream guilloché sunburst. An opulent border of gold acanthus scrollwork frames it, closed with a bright gold rim.
This example comes from a Wake Forest, North Carolina estate, by way of a collector who came south from Long Island — the kind of household where a numbered plate was kept and displayed rather than used. Its standout is a genuine faceted jewel mounted in raised relief at the egg's center medallion, the first detail to go missing on plates of this kind and here still secure. Hand-numbered Plate No. HA2702, it is marked for decorative use only.
