Image Arts “Meowy Christmas” Holiday Card Set — 18 Sealed Cat Christmas Cards, c. 1990s

“Meowy Christmas.” That is the whole joke, and it is a good one. This is a sealed box of eighteen holiday cards from Image Arts, and the cover sets the tone: a wreath on a cheerful yellow door, except the wreath is made entirely of long, green, thoroughly pleased-with-themselves cats — curled nose-to-tail into a ring with a red bow tied on top. Whiskers, paws, little smug faces and all. Presents are stacked at the step; snow sits on the sill. It is exactly as silly as it sounds. Open one and the inside reads “Meowy Christmas” — the kind of card that makes the cat person on your list actually laugh instead of just saying thank you. There are eighteen of them, with envelopes, which is enough to cover most of a list and still keep a few back for yourself. Best of all, the box has never been opened. It is new old stock, still in its original factory shrink wrap, sealed and intact, and the cards inside are as crisp and bright as the day they were printed. Image Arts of Marshfield, Massachusetts published it (item LT00976, back when the sticker still read $9.95), and it came to us from a Louisburg, North Carolina estate. Vintage novelty cards like these have a small but devoted following, and a sealed box is the version collectors actually want. Send them, frame the cover, or just keep it on the shelf for the pun — whatever you do, it is a bit of low-stakes holiday joy that has only gotten harder to find still sealed.
