Contemporary Stoneware Very Good

Three little Santas joined hand-in-hand in a ring, with a place for a tealight glowing at the center. A glazed ceramic votive holder in muted, old-world winter tones — dove grey, sage, and cream with warm amber pooling at the tips of their pointed caps. Nothing loud or bright; just a quiet, companionable Christmas scene that suits a mantel or windowsill far better than the usual red-and-green. Sized for a standard tealight, with a felt-padded base. An unsigned import (marked “Made in China”) but a nicely made one, from a Louisburg, North Carolina estate.

Highlights & Details

  • Glazed ceramic (stoneware) tealight / votive holder
  • Three little Santa figures joined hand-in-hand around a central candle well
  • Muted reactive glaze — dove grey, sage, and cream with warm amber pooling
  • Sized for a standard tealight candle; felt-padded base
  • Roughly 5 inches across, about 4 inches tall
  • Underside marked “Made in China” — unsigned import
  • From a Louisburg, North Carolina estate
Condition: Very good. The mottled, tonal glaze is intentional — part of how the piece was made, not wear — and I find no chips or cracks. A characterful holder ready for its next candle.

Ceramic Santa Trio Tealight Holder — Rustic Glazed Christmas Votive Ring

Contemporary

Rustic old-world holiday

Some Christmas pieces shout; this one hums. Three little Santas, round and hooded, have joined hands in a ring around a central well made for a tealight — light the candle and they stand watch around the glow, caps tipped together as if sharing a carol. It is glazed ceramic, finished in the soft, mottled reactive tones that make each example a little different: dove grey and sage over cream, with warm amber pooling at the peak of every hat.

The piece came to us from an estate in Louisburg, North Carolina, with the settled look of something set out faithfully each December. The underside is marked simply “Made in China” — an unsigned import, but a nicely made one, its muted old-world palette a clear cut above the usual seasonal red-and-green. Sized for a standard tealight and felt-padded beneath, it asks only for a candle and a quiet corner to do its work.

Materials Glazed ceramic (stoneware), with a mottled reactive finish
Care Use a standard tealight and never leave a burning candle unattended. Wipe clean with a soft, dry cloth.

Three little Santas have joined hands in a ring, and in the middle of their circle is a place for a candle. That is the whole charming idea of it: light a tealight and the three of them stand watch around the glow, arms linked, caps tipped together as if they are sharing a secret or a carol. It is the kind of quiet, companionable Christmas scene that a good votive holder is made for. It is ceramic — glazed stoneware, with the soft, mottled, reactive finish that makes each one a little different from the next. The color sits in muted winter tones: dove grey and sage green over cream, with warm amber pooling at the tips of their pointed caps and freckling the glaze like melted snow. Nothing loud, nothing painted-on-bright — just the tonal, old-world palette that reads as expensive even when a piece is humble. It suits a mantel or a windowsill far better than the usual red-and-green. Each Santa is a round, hooded little fellow with a long beard and a peaked hat topped by an amber bobble, and they hold hands around a central well sized for a standard tealight. Drop a candle in and the light catches their faces and the glaze all at once. (It is shown here with a flameless LED tealight, simply so you can see it lit.) It came to us from an estate in Louisburg, North Carolina, and it has the settled, been-loved-a-while look of a piece that came out every December. The underside is marked simply “Made in China” — an unsigned import, but a nicely made one, and the muted reactive glaze is a clear cut above the usual seasonal fare. Set it out with a candle and let it do the quiet work of making a room feel like the holidays.
