It came to us from a Hobbsville, North Carolina estate.

Blue & White Porcelain Chamberstick — Cottage Onion-Pattern Taper Candle Holder with Finger Loop

Contemporary

Blue-and-White Cottage Chamberstick

The chamberstick is one of the oldest, friendliest shapes in candle-keeping — a little dish to catch the drips, a socket to hold a single taper, and a curled loop for your finger so you could carry a flame from room to room. This one wears the look in soft cottage blue-and-white: a scalloped inner ring, scattered sprigs around the rim, and a scrolling border in the spirit of old onion-pattern china. It reads as timeless rather than dated, the kind of pattern that has been welcome on kitchen tables and bedside stands for generations.

It came to us from a Hobbsville, North Carolina estate where blue-and-white was clearly a lifelong preference, turning up across the shelves in one form after another. We have kept the styling simple so the piece can do what it was made to do — hold a taper, catch the wax, and add a quiet note of blue to a mantel, a windowsill, or a writing desk.

Materials Glazed white porcelain with transfer-printed cobalt-blue onion-style border; single taper socket, round drip saucer, and curled finger-loop handle.
Care Wipe with a soft, damp cloth and dry well. Hand wash only; avoid the dishwasher. Trim wicks and never leave a burning candle unattended.

The chamberstick is one of the oldest, friendliest shapes in candle-keeping: a shallow dish to catch the drips, a socket to hold a single taper, and a curled loop for your finger so a flame could travel from room to room. It's a form built entirely around use, and it has never really gone out of style. This one is glazed white porcelain dressed in soft cottage blue-and-white. A scalloped ring circles the well of the saucer, scattered sprigs run around the rim, and the socket and handle carry the same scrolling blue detailing — decoration in the spirit of the old onion-pattern china that's been welcome on kitchen tables and bedside stands for generations. The blue is an easy color to live with, at home against wood, linen, or a whitewashed shelf. It came to us from a Hobbsville, North Carolina estate, where someone clearly kept a fondness for blue-and-white and knew a candle deserves a proper place to stand. Set it on a mantel, a windowsill, or a writing desk, and let the drip saucer and finger loop do exactly what they were designed to do.
