Vintage Cream Lucite Dome Clip Earrings — Mid-Century Modernist, c. 1960s

Circa 1965 – 1970

American Designer Costume Jewelry, Modernist

Of everything we acquired from this particular North Carolina estate, these stopped us cold. Miriam Haskell cream Lucite dome clips, circa 1965–1970, with US Patent No. 3,176,475 stamped right on the clip finding — the authentication trail you hope for but don't always get. The previous owner had spent decades selling fine jewelry professionally, and she knew exactly what she had here.

This places them squarely in the Frank Fialkoff era, post-1954, when Haskell's design house continued producing fully collectible work under his direction. The Lucite domes are modernist and clean — a departure from the baroque pearl clusters most people associate with the Haskell name, but no less deliberate. Very good condition. For Haskell collectors, the patent stamp alone makes these worth a long look.

Materials Warm cream Lucite/resin domes, gold-tone clip-back findings with proprietary patented mechanism
Care Store in a soft pouch or lined jewelry box away from direct sunlight, which may yellow Lucite over time. Clean domes gently with a soft, slightly damp cloth and dry immediately. Do not use chemical cleaners, acetone, or alcohol on Lucite. The gold-tone findings show age-appropriate oxidation and verdigris — this patina has been intentionally preserved. Over-cleaning authenticated Haskell findings risks diminishing both the character and the collectible value of the piece. Handle clips gently to maintain spring tension.

There is a particular kind of pleasure in a piece that asks nothing of you. No fuss, no statement, no occasion required. These cream Lucite dome clip earrings are exactly that — a smooth, rounded silhouette in warm ivory-cream resin, polished to a soft glow and set on gold-tone clip findings. They are clean, modernist, and quietly confident, the sort of earrings that look as natural with a linen shirt as they do with something dressier. The dome shape is what gives them away as mid-century. That pared-back, sculptural roundness was very much the modernist mood of the 1960s — a turn away from the busy, beaded confections of earlier decades toward something simpler and more architectural. Lucite, the lightweight cast resin that costume jewelers reached for again and again in this era, lets the form do all the talking. The cream tone is the quiet hero here: it warms against the skin and refuses to clash with anything in your wardrobe. One honest dating clue worth mentioning: the clip findings carry US Patent No. 3,176,475, an adjustable earring-clip mechanism patented in 1965. That places the construction of these clips at roughly 1965 or later, which is a useful anchor for the date. It is worth being clear about what it is and is not — it identifies the clip mechanism, a generic finding that suppliers sold to many costume-jewelry houses, not the maker of the earrings themselves. These are unsigned, so we leave them happily unattributed. Their appeal does not need a famous name behind it; the design carries itself.
