Small enough to sit in your palm and still earn its keep on a dressing table. This footed porcelain trinket box wears a soft band of iridescent aqua luster — that mother-of-pearl sheen that shifts in the light — edged in fine gold pinstripes. The domed lid carries a single open yellow rose, creamy petals and an amber-gold bud among soft green leaves. It stands on three curved scroll feet, each tipped in gold, and the lid seats with a neat little settle. Just the size for a pair of earrings, the day's rings, or a stray button you're not ready to part with. Highlights & Details
  • Size: tiny and footed — 2.5" tall by 2.5" across, truly palm-sized
  • Body: white porcelain wrapped in an iridescent pale aqua luster band with fine gold pinstripes
  • Lid: domed, with a single yellow rose and a gold-trimmed rim
  • Feet: three curved scroll feet, each tipped in gold
  • Inside: clean white glaze with a gold-lined rim; lid seats neatly
  • Mark: a hand-painted gold number, "3449," on the base — a decorator's or mold number, not a maker's signature
  • Era: mid-century porcelain lusterware, in the style of 1950s–60s giftware
Condition: Very good vintage condition — porcelain sound with no cracks or chips, lid seating properly. There's gentle wear to the gold, most visibly some gilt softening on the foot tips, all of it age-appropriate and part of a little box that was clearly used and enjoyed.

Tiny Footed Porcelain Trinket Box — Single Yellow Rose Lid on Iridescent Aqua Lusterware

Mid-Century, circa 1950s–1960s

Mid-Century Lusterware Vanity Box

This little box comes to us from a North Carolina estate, one of the small, personal things that tend to outlast everything grander around them. Palm-sized and footed, it is a dresser-top piece through and through — the kind that sits on a dressing table and quietly holds the day's rings and earrings, a spare button, a single pearl. The domed lid carries a transfer-printed yellow rose, the body wears a band of iridescent aqua luster edged in gold, and three gold-tipped scroll feet lift it just off the surface.

Its construction places it squarely in the mid-century porcelain giftware tradition — iridescent lusterware, gilt accents, a transfer-printed floral lid, and a hand-painted gold number, "3449," on the base. That number is a decorator's or mold mark rather than a maker's signature, and there is no maker name or country stamp to name a workshop with certainty. What it offers instead is character: the soft mother-of-pearl shimmer of the luster and the gentle wear of gold that comes only from years of being picked up and set back down. A small keeper of small treasures, still ready for the next dressing table.

Materials White porcelain with an iridescent aqua luster band, gold pinstripe and rim accents, transfer-printed rose lid, and three gold-tipped scroll feet.
Care Dust with a soft, dry cloth. Wipe gently by hand; never soak, scrub, or dishwash — harsh detergents and abrasives will lift the delicate gilding and luster. Keep out of prolonged direct sun.

Some things are made to be handled every day, and this is one of them. A footed porcelain box no bigger than the palm of your hand, the kind that lives on a dressing table and quietly does its job — catching the rings you slip off at night, the earrings you take out last, a spare button or a pearl waiting to be dealt with. You can picture the routine it belonged to. Lift the lid in the morning, set it back at day's end. The body is white porcelain wrapped in a band of iridescent aqua luster — that soft mother-of-pearl shimmer that changes as you turn it toward the light — with fine gold pinstripes drawn along the edges. On the domed lid, a single yellow rose: creamy open petals, an amber-gold bud, a few soft green leaves. It rests on three scroll feet that curve out like little cabriole legs, each one dipped in gold. Inside, the glaze is clean and white with a gold-lined rim, and the lid settles down where it belongs. Turn it over and you'll find a hand-painted gold number, "3449," on the base — a decorator's or mold number rather than a maker's mark, the sort of small human detail that tells you a real hand touched this piece. There's no maker name and no country stamp, but the whole character of it — the luster, the gilt, the little painted number, the transfer-printed rose — is pure mid-century porcelain giftware, the kind of thing that once came wrapped in tissue as a small, thoughtful gift. It comes to us from a North Carolina estate, and it carries its years the way well-loved things do. Highlights & Details
