This dish was carved from a single piece of natural onyx — the translucent banded stone often called onyx marble — and the color inside it took ages to arrive: pale creamy-white cooled with a whisper of green, then warmed through with drifting rivers of honey, amber, and caramel. Those veins are the stone's own figure, laid down over a very long geological time, and they are what make this piece one of a kind.

It came to us from the estate of a collector with a genuine eye for natural, earthy things — stone, mineral, the quiet beauty of what the ground gives up. The leaf form is soft and sculptural, with a gently curled tip and a lobed edge, polished to a glassy sheen. Held to a lamp or a candle, the whole dish glows from within, the amber bands lighting as though the stone were still moving.
