A tall, curvaceous statement vase where color does all the talking. Teal and turquoise drift into warm amber, gold and coppered brown, poured and tilted so the pigments run in translucent, watercolor-like veils and pool toward the base — a flowing finish in the manner of alcohol-ink art, sealed under a deep, metallic, wet-look gloss that shimmers as it turns. Every angle reads differently as the light moves across it. The form is classic and generous: a rounded, pear-shaped body rising to a flared trumpet mouth on a neat footed base, standing about 12 inches tall. It came to us through a Hobbsville, North Carolina estate — a house where the old and the newly made were allowed to keep company on the same shelf.
  • Finish — hand-applied flowing translucent color (teal, amber-gold, copper) under a high-gloss, metallic wet-look surface with a shimmering sheen
  • Form — baluster body, flared trumpet neck, footed base
  • Size — approx. 12" tall x 7" diameter
  • Material — glass, hand-decorated
  • One of a kind — no two are finished quite the same way
  • Condition: Excellent — high-gloss surface clean and richly colored, form sound and display-ready

Teal & Amber Art Glass Vase — 12" Hand-Decorated Flowing Ink Statement Vessel

Contemporary

Hand-Decorated Art Glass

This is a contemporary studio piece, not an antique — a plain glass vase transformed by hand into something singular. Translucent inks in teal, amber-gold and copper were poured onto its smooth surface and tilted so the colors ran and pooled into drifting, watercolor-like currents, then sealed beneath a deep, wet-look gloss. It's a technique often called alcohol-ink art, and its charm is that it can never quite be repeated: every vessel finished this way comes out one of a kind.

It came to us through a Hobbsville, North Carolina estate — a home where the old and the newly made were allowed to keep company on the same shelf, and where a bold splash of color was always welcome among the quieter antiques. Unsigned, as these artisan pieces usually are, it carries no maker's mark; its story is simply in the making and the eye that chose it. We've priced it as the accessible, contemporary decorative piece it is.

Materials Glass body hand-decorated with flowing, translucent color — teal, amber-gold and copper — in the manner of alcohol-ink art, sealed under a high-gloss finish.
Care Dust with a soft, dry cloth and wipe gently; avoid abrasives, harsh cleaners and soaking. Best suited to dried arrangements rather than fresh water, which protects the decorative surface.

Some pieces earn their place by color alone, and this one is all movement. Bands of teal and turquoise slide into warm amber, gold and coppered brown, running down the body in translucent, watercolor-like veils that pool and darken toward the foot. It's the look of alcohol-ink art — pigment poured onto a smooth, non-porous glass surface and tilted so gravity draws the colors into drifting, marbled currents — then sealed beneath a deep, metallic gloss that shimmers as it catches the light. Hold it up and the teal turns almost jewel-like. Turn it in your hands and no two sides tell the same story. The shape is classic and generous: a full, pear-shaped body that narrows to a graceful flared trumpet neck, all balanced on a tidy footed base. At about 12 inches tall and 7 across at its widest, it has real presence — a mantel piece, an entry-table anchor, a sculptural note on a bookshelf. Fill it with dried grasses and branches, or let it stand entirely on its own. It's a contemporary, hand-decorated piece, and one of a kind — that flowing-ink treatment never lands the same way twice. It reached us through a Hobbsville, North Carolina estate, a house where the old and the newly made were allowed to keep company on the same shelf, and where a bold splash of color was clearly always welcome among the quieter things.
