Steven Klein Folk Art Prints, Framed Miniature Pair — "Country Fields" & "Lazy Summer"

Late 20th Century

American Folk Art / Naive Landscape

Steven Klein (b. 1946, Brooklyn, New York) is a collected American folk art painter known for idealized rural landscapes rendered in a deliberate primitive style he calls “magic perspective.” Educated at SUNY and the New York Institute of Technology in advertising and fine art, Klein is an award-winning artist whose work has been featured in collections, galleries, and shows worldwide. He has been commissioned for over 50 publications including CD covers, collector plates for the Franklin Mint, lithographs, prints, serigraphs, and posters. He also wrote and illustrated children’s books. He currently resides in Mexico, New York. These miniature prints are decorative detail crops from two of Klein’s larger signed compositions: “Country Fields” (a springtime farm scene) and “Lazy Summer” (a grist mill village scene). They are not signed or numbered editions.

Materials Decorative prints on paper, cream mat board, robin's egg blue painted wood frames, glazed.
Care Keep out of direct sunlight to prevent fading. Dust frames with a soft, dry cloth. Do not remove prints from frames — the mats and backing protect the paper.

Two small prints, two seasons, one painter who knows exactly what he's doing with a rolling hillside. Steven Klein (b. 1946, Brooklyn) paints idealized American landscapes in a deliberate naive style — think Grandma Moses by way of Charles Wysocki. He's a collected artist with hundreds of auction results and steady gallery representation, known for what's sometimes called "magic perspective": everything slightly flattened, slightly sweetened, like a memory of a place you're not entirely sure you've been. It works. It's worked for decades. This pair captures two moments from that world. The first is a detail from Klein's "Country Fields" — pure spring, a red barn anchoring a valley of blossoming trees, dairy cows dotting green pasture, a stream winding past birch trees toward distant mountains. The second is from "Lazy Summer" — a red grist mill with a big water wheel, stone foundation planted right alongside a running stream, cows behind a fence, the hills going amber. They're companion pieces in every sense. Both come in matching robin's egg blue painted wood frames with cream mats — 6" x 6" each, the kind of size that tucks nicely onto a shelf, a mantel, or grouped with other small pieces on a gallery wall. They're decorative prints (not signed or numbered editions), miniature detail crops from Klein's larger compositions. We want to be upfront about that. What they are is a charming, well-presented pair by a legitimate folk art name, at a price that lets you just enjoy them. Clean prints, no foxing or fading. Frames in good shape. No marks or labels on the backs. Wire display easels not included. If you like the tradition — the pastoral scenes, the careful naivety, the colors that feel like they belong in a country kitchen — these two belong together, and they'd like to come home with you.
