Capodimonte-Style Applied-Flower Porcelain Leaf Dishes — Three-Piece Nesting Set with Gilt Feathered Edges

Capodimonte-Style Applied-Flower Porcelain
There's a whole tradition behind a set like this — the art of the applied flower, where a maker builds each blossom petal by petal in soft porcelain and sets it in place by hand before firing. Capodimonte made the style famous, and it's stayed a favorite ever since, which is why you'll see so much of it described as Capodimonte-style. These three leaf dishes belong to that lineage. The large double leaf carries a full cluster along its gilded spine — dusty-rose stars with sugared blue centers, a rosebud, blue porcelain leaves — and the two smaller leaves each hold a single rose. All three wear the same feathered gold at the edges, and all three nest together when the day is done.
This set came to us from an estate near Woodbridge, Virginia. We don't know whose dresser or windowsill it lived on, only that it was kept and used and passed along, which is about the best a small porcelain can hope for. Flowers this delicate rarely survive the decades untouched, and this set carries a little of that history openly — but it reads whole and lovely as a group, the kind of thing that catches the light and makes you slow down for a second to look.
