Four little cups, two warmed with gilt rims and two cooled in platinum, each wearing the same baroque scrollwork around the middle. This is a Bijoux Terner Home espresso set from the 2000s, and here's the part worth knowing: it was never used. Not once. It came to us from a Lexington, North Carolina estate still tucked in its hinged, cloth-covered presentation box, the porcelain wrapped and waiting the way good things get put away "for good."
  • 8 pieces: 4 porcelain demitasse cups (2 gilt-rimmed gold, 2 platinum/silver) with 4 matching saucers, each with a fluted well
  • Ornate baroque scrollwork bands wrapping cups and saucers alike
  • Hinged copper/rose-gold presentation box, satin-and-tissue lined, gold-embossed Bijoux Terner Home, metal clasp
  • Every piece backstamped Bijoux Terner — Made in China
  • Bijoux Terner, the Miami giftware house behind so many airport and resort shop finds
Condition: The presentation box shows honest shelf wear and is a touch fragile, as these cloth boxes tend to get. The contents are another story entirely — never used, the porcelain pristine.

Bijoux Terner Home Demitasse Set — 4 Gold and Platinum Baroque Porcelain Espresso Cups and Saucers, in Presentation Box

Contemporary, circa 2000s

Baroque / Rococo Revival Demitasse Service

Bijoux Terner started in Miami in 1974, the work of Salomon "Moni" Terner, a Cuban émigré who understood something about travel and temptation. His shops turned up where people had a little time to kill and a little room in their bags — airports, resorts, that bright corner of the terminal where everything wears one friendly price tag. The idea caught on. The "Home" line brought that same easy glamour to the table, and this espresso set is a fine example of it: four porcelain cups, two warm in gilt and two cool in platinum, all wrapped in baroque scrollwork and tucked into a cloth-covered box made to be given, or kept.

This one was kept. It comes from a Lexington, North Carolina estate, a well-tended home of the sort where good things were bought and then set aside "for good" — that phrase doing a lot of quiet work in a lot of Southern china cabinets. The factory wrap was still on the porcelain when it reached us, which tells you the rest without anyone having to say it. Someone chose this set, liked it enough to save it, and saved it so completely that the coffee was never poured. There's a small sweetness in that, and a small invitation, too. The someday it was waiting for can finally arrive.

Materials White porcelain cups and saucers with baroque scrollwork in gilt and platinum; hinged cloth-covered presentation box, satin-and-tissue lined with metal clasp.
Care Hand-wash the porcelain gently and dry by hand; avoid the dishwasher and microwave. Keep the cloth-covered presentation box out of damp and direct sun.

There's a particular kind of pretty that belongs to espresso cups. Small enough to feel like a secret, fancy enough to make an ordinary Tuesday afternoon feel like an occasion. This Bijoux Terner Home set has four of them, and it plays a quiet trick you'll like: two cups run warm, ringed in gilt, and two run cool in platinum silver, so the set reads as a matched pair of pairs. Every cup and every saucer carries the same ornate baroque scrollwork, that rococo swirl wrapping the middle like a good piece of jewelry. The saucers echo it, each finished with a fluted well to hold its cup steady. Bijoux Terner is a Miami name, founded in 1974 by Salomon Terner, a Cuban émigré who built a giftware house on a simple idea — one price, one shelf, the kind of thing you'd spot in an airport or a resort shop and think, that would be lovely on the table at home. The "Home" line was exactly that. This set dates to the 2000s, and it has a story stamped right into how well it kept. It came to us from a Lexington, North Carolina estate, one of those well-kept homes where nice things were bought and then saved rather than spent. The set was never used. It arrived still nestled in its hinged, cloth-covered presentation box, porcelain wrapped from the factory, the whole thing waiting for a someday that, in the kindest way, is now yours to spend however you like.
