Vintage Santa & Mrs. Claus Figural Salt & Pepper Shaker Set — Hand-Painted Christmas Novelty Pair
Circa 1970s–1990s
Figural Holiday Novelty
There is something irresistibly cheerful about a Santa and Mrs. Claus who arrive as a matched pair. This little duo is a figural salt and pepper shaker set in hand-painted plastic, the kind that dressed American holiday tables from the 1970s through the 1990s. Santa raises a small gold horn with his toy sack at his feet; Mrs. Claus stands beside him in a holly-trimmed apron, cradling a bright wrapped gift. They are a genuine working set — Santa is the salt, his cap crowned with a cluster of tiny holes, and Mrs. Claus is the pepper, a single hole at the top of her silvery hair. Each still keeps its original rubber stopper underneath.
The set is unmarked, as so many of these mass-produced holiday novelties were — one of countless figural shakers turned out for the Christmas season, with no maker's stamp to name. That does nothing to dim their charm. They came to us from an estate in Louisburg, North Carolina, part of a small gathering of Christmas pieces a family brought out year after year.
