There's a whole story painted into this one. It's the night before Christmas — a "Dec. 24" calendar page pinned to the workshop wall — and Santa's holding a freshly painted doll up to the lamplight while Mrs. Claus steadies the paint pails and a green-capped elf touches up a toy clown. A rocking horse, a wind-up train, and a teddy bear with a red bow finish the scene, all framed by a band of gilded gold. Marked on the reverse "Santa's Workshop," designed exclusively for Princess House, Inc. and dated 1995, this decorative collector plate came to us from a Hobbsville, North Carolina estate — the kind of Christmas piece a household brings out each December to set the tone for the season.

Princess House "Santa's Workshop" Christmas Collector Plate — 1995, Gilt-Rimmed Porcelain

1995

Christmas Collector Plate

Princess House, Inc. built its name in American living rooms — a direct-sale company famous through the 1970s, '80s, and '90s for its sparkling crystal and holiday giftware, sold at home parties across the country. Its Christmas pieces were made to be brought out year after year, and this plate belongs to that tradition. Marked on the reverse "Santa's Workshop" and dated 1995, it captures the workshop on the night before Christmas: Santa checking a freshly painted doll, Mrs. Claus at his elbow, and an elf finishing the last of the toys, all wrapped in a gilded gold rim.

This plate came to us from an estate in Hobbsville, North Carolina — a small farming community in the northeastern corner of the state, where seasonal keepsakes like this one tend to be kept carefully and set out each December. A collector plate is meant to be seen rather than used; this one is ready to hang or stand where the light can catch its gilt rim and its warm, storybook scene.

Materials Porcelain/ceramic collector plate with a fired transfer scene and a gilded gold rim band. Marked and dated on the reverse. Made in U.S.A.
Care Dust with a soft, dry cloth. Decorative use only — not food-safe. Keep out of the dishwasher and away from direct sunlight to protect the colors and gilded rim.

Some Christmas pieces are just decoration. This one tells a story. Look closely and you'll find the calendar on the workshop wall turned to "Dec. 24" — the very last push before the big night. Santa, in his red work apron with a paintbrush in hand, holds a freshly finished doll up toward the lamplight to check his work. Mrs. Claus leans in beside him in her green jacket, steadying a little pail of paint, while a green-capped elf bends over a toy clown at the foot of the stairs. The details are what make it. Tin pails line up on a wooden stool, a rocking horse and a wind-up train wait under the tree, and a teddy bear with a red ribbon lies flopped on the floor. A band of gilded gold rings the edge and frames the whole warm, firelit scene. It's a proper storybook workshop, painted with real affection. The reverse tells the rest — it's marked "Santa's Workshop," designed exclusively for Princess House, Inc., dated 1995, and made in the U.S.A. Princess House was the American direct-sale home company known for its crystal and holiday giftware, and this decorative Christmas plate came to us from a Hobbsville, North Carolina estate — exactly the sort of annual collector plate a household brings out each December to mark the season.
