Retro (1970s–1990s) Art Glass Very Good
HDRH-VR-0052
A proud little rooster caught mid-crow, hand-blown from glass in the Venetian manner. The plump body is a swirl of confetti color — cobalt, green, gold and red flecks scattered across a milky-white ground — while the comb, wattle, sweeping wings and fanned tail are worked in glowing ruby glass, each one tooled with fine feather ribbing. A glossy dark beak and two tiny black glass eyes finish the character. He catches the light beautifully and brings a jolt of cheer to a shelf, a mantel, or a sunny kitchen windowsill.
  • Hand-blown art glass in the classic Murano/Venetian style (unmarked)
  • Multicolor confetti-spatter body with applied ruby-red comb, wattle, wings and tail
  • Hand-tooled feather ribbing, glossy dark beak, tiny glass eyes
  • Hollow blown form with smooth ground pontil base
  • Stands about 8 inches tall — a genuine statement piece
  • From a Hobbsville, North Carolina estate
  • Condition: Very good vintage condition, with vivid color and crisp detail — the kind that make these hand-blown roosters such fun to collect. Ready to display and enjoy.

Hand-Blown Art Glass Rooster — Murano-Style Confetti Glass Figurine, 8"

Late 20th Century

Murano-Style Art Glass

A proud little rooster caught mid-crow, hand-blown from glass in the Venetian manner. The plump body is a swirl of confetti color — cobalt, green, gold, and red flecks scattered across a milky-white ground — while the ribbed comb, wattle, sweeping wings, and fanned tail are worked in glowing ruby glass. The hollow blown form and smoothly ground pontil mark a piece shaped by hand at the furnace; it carries no maker's mark, so we offer it as Murano-style rather than attributed.

It came to us from a Hobbsville, North Carolina estate, among a collection of fine vases, curios, and figurines — a house where a charming piece was always welcome. Very good vintage condition, its color vivid and applied details crisp.

Materials Hand-blown art glass; confetti-spatter multicolor body on a white ground with applied, hand-tooled ruby-red comb, wattle, wings and tail.
Care Dust with a soft, dry cloth. Handwash gently in lukewarm water if needed and dry right away. Handle the applied comb and tail with care, and keep away from hard knocks.

Every so often a piece arrives with enough personality to run the whole room, and this hand-blown glass rooster is one of them. Frozen mid-crow with his head thrown back, he's a study in color and craft — the kind of decorative art glass that earns a second look and then a smile. The rounded body is blown from milky-white glass shot through with a dense confetti of color: cobalt blue, grass green, sunny yellow, orange and deep red, scattered across the surface like wildflowers. Against all that pattern the applied details glow in transparent ruby red — a tall ribbed comb, a curling wattle, two fanned wings and a grand upswept tail, each hand-tooled with delicate feather lines. A glossy dark beak and a pair of tiny black glass eyes give him his knowing, slightly comic expression. Turn him over and you'll find the hollow blown form and smoothly ground pontil that mark a piece shaped by hand at the furnace, in the long Venetian tradition of whimsical glass animals. He carries no maker's mark, so we offer him as Murano-style rather than attributed — but the technique speaks for itself. He came to us from a Hobbsville, North Carolina estate, among a collection of fine vases, curios and figurines — a house where a charming piece was always welcome. This cheerful rooster fits right in.
