Bold, swirling blue and teal art glass that looks like someone caught the ocean mid-turn and froze it in place. This thick-walled, hand-blown vase has the kind of weight and presence that stops you in a doorway — scattered with tiny bubbles throughout, every one of them proof that a real person shaped this at the end of a blowpipe. At 9.5 inches tall with a generous round body, it's the piece that anchors a shelf.

Hand-Blown Swirl Art Glass Vase — 9.5" Ocean Blue & Teal Artisan Glass

Contemporary Artisan

Hand-Blown Art Glass, Swirl Technique

This vase came to us from an estate in Hobbesville, North Carolina — a collection built by a woman who spent her career in fine jewelry but whose eye wandered well beyond the display case. She had a thing for art glass, and this piece shows why. Hand-blown with a thick wall and a satisfying heft, the blue and teal swirls pull white through them like clouds reflected in deep water. Natural air bubbles caught mid-rise tell you a real person made this, standing at a furnace, turning a pipe.

The rough pontil mark on the base confirms it's a studio piece, shaped and cracked off the rod by hand. It's unsigned, which isn't unusual for artisan glass — plenty of talented glassblowers never bothered with signatures. What they left behind was the work itself. At nine and a half inches tall with that bulbous round body, this one holds its own on a mantel or a dining table without trying too hard.

Materials Hand-blown art glass with swirled blue, teal, white, and clear coloring, thick-walled construction, natural air bubbles throughout, rough (unpolished) pontil mark on base
Care Hand wash only with lukewarm water and mild soap. Dry with a soft, lint-free cloth. Do not place in the dishwasher. If using as a flower vase, change the water regularly to prevent mineral buildup. The rough pontil mark on the base may catch on delicate surfaces — consider placing a felt pad underneath to protect furniture. Display on a stable, level surface.

The first thing you notice is the movement. Blue, teal, white, and clear glass spiral through this vase in broad diagonal sweeps — not painted on, not printed, but mixed into the molten glass itself, pulled and twisted while it was still alive with heat. The effect is distinctly oceanic. Not in a literal, seashells-on-the-mantel way, but in the sense that you're looking at something fluid that was caught just before it settled. Pick it up and you'll feel the difference right away. The walls are thick and the glass is substantial — this isn't delicate decorative ware, it's the kind of piece that was built to last a few generations. Tiny bubbles are scattered throughout the glass, trapped during the blowing process, and they catch the light in a way that gives the whole piece a quiet inner life. The bulbous body sits wide and confident, narrowing to a neck that flares gently at the rim — a classic artisan form that works just as well holding a handful of dried eucalyptus as it does standing on its own. The base tells the story: a rough pontil mark where the glass was broken from the blowpipe, left unpolished. That's your handshake with whoever made this. The vase is unmarked — no maker's signature, no label — but the technique, the weight, and the character of the glass are consistent with hand-blown artisan production. We can't pin it to a specific maker, and we won't pretend otherwise. What we can tell you is that it's well-made, it's honest, and it has the kind of presence that factory glass simply doesn't.
