Retro (1970s–1990s) Glass Excellent

Every edge on this little box is beveled, so it sits on the dresser catching light like a handful of prisms. Clear glass, four beveled sides on a beveled base, up on small discreet metal feet. The lift-off lid is where it earns its name: a frosted rose in full bloom, acid-etched soft and white against the clear panel, leaves and all. This is the box that held a woman's rings and earrings at the end of the day.
  • Beveled glass throughout — four side panels and a clear base, joined at the corners
  • Frosted, etched rose in full bloom on the lid, surrounded by leaves
  • Lift-off lid — not hinged, just a clean, elegant top that seats neatly
  • Small metal feet that keep it up off the surface
  • Size: 5" long × 3" wide × 2.5" tall
Condition: Excellent. The glass is clean and clear, the etching crisp and bright, no chips or cracks, and the lid seats right where it should.

Etched Rose Beveled-Glass Lidded Vanity Box

Late 20th Century

Romantic Etched-Glass Vanity Box

This clear beveled-glass box came to us from a North Carolina estate we've spent the season cataloging — a home where the small, everyday things were kept with real care. It's the kind of piece that lived on a dresser: the quiet keeper of rings slipped off at night and earrings set down beside them, waiting to be found again in the morning light.

Boxes like this were made in the late twentieth century in a romantic, cottage-garden spirit — beveled panels cut to catch the light, and a single rose etched into the lid in soft frosted white. This one carries no maker's mark, and it doesn't need one. Its charm is in the doing: a small glass box that made an ordinary nightly ritual feel a little more considered, and that will do the same on the next dresser it graces.

Materials Clear beveled glass — four side panels and a base joined at the corners — with a frosted, acid-etched rose on a lift-off lid; small metal feet.
Care Dust with a soft, dry or barely damp cloth, then dry right away to keep the glass bright. Lift the lid off gently rather than dragging it, and store away from hard knocks.

There's a particular kind of object that belongs to the end of the day. You come in, you set down your rings, your earrings go beside them, and in the morning they're right where you left them. This clear beveled-glass box did that job, and did it beautifully. Every edge is beveled — the four side panels, the clear glass bottom, all of it cut so the light breaks and scatters like a prism. It rests on small, discreet metal feet that lift it just off the surface. The lid is a separate flat panel that lifts off cleanly, no hinge, no fuss. Simple and elegant, the way the best of these are. The lid is the star. A rose in full bloom, frosted and etched into the glass, soft white against the clear, with its leaves fanned out around it. It's the cottage-garden kind of rose — romantic without trying too hard — and it's what turns a plain glass box into something you'd want on the dresser for years. At 5 inches long, 3 wide, and 2.5 tall, it's the right size for rings, studs, a stray cufflink, the small things that need a home. It's an unsigned piece, late twentieth century, and honestly it doesn't need a name stamped underneath to be lovely. Someone kept it with care, and it shows. Condition: Excellent. The glass is clean and clear, the etched rose still crisp and bright, no chips or cracks anywhere. The lid sits down neat and even. It's ready for the next dresser it lands on.
