Contemporary Painted Metal Very Good
HDRV-VR-0030
A handsome little Old-World ewer with real presence for its size — it stands 12.5 inches, with a high pinched spout, an S-curved handle that scrolls up into a leaf-and-flourish finial, and a fluted body that catches the light panel by panel. The finish is the whole story: a mottled amber-gold speckle worked over deep oxblood brown, with soft turquoise-green settled into the recessed leaf motifs, the foot, and the handle. It's a decorative faux-patina done the way the old workshops liked it — a piece that reads antique from across the room.
  • Amphora silhouette with a hand-formed pouring spout and a gadrooned pedestal foot
  • Raised, repeating leaf-and-wheat motif around the lower body
  • Applied Old-World finish: amber-gold over oxblood, with verdigris-green in the recesses
  • Pressed patinated metal, unmarked; 12.5" tall, about 6" wide
  • A mantel, shelf, or sideboard accent — decorative, not for water
Condition: Very good decorative condition — finish intact and even, handle solid, spout carrying the gently irregular rim of its handmade character.

Old-World Metal Ewer Vase — 12.5" Embossed Pitcher with Antiqued Verdigris Finish

Contemporary

Old World

Every mantel has a spot that asks for a little character — a corner of the shelf that goes quiet, a stretch of sideboard that needs one good object to gather the eye. In a Hobbsville, North Carolina estate, this small ewer was the answer. At twelve and a half inches, with its scrolled handle and lifted spout, it's the kind of piece that holds its own corner and gives the arrangement around it a center to settle against. You notice it first, then the rest of the shelf falls into place.

We think that's the quiet job it did for years, and it's the job it's ready to do again. The Old-World finish — amber and oxblood with green worked into the leafwork — carries that weathered, been-here-forever look that makes a new room feel a little more lived-in. It doesn't ask for much. A steady shelf, a bit of open space around it, and a corner that's been waiting for something with presence. Set it down, step back, and let it do what it does best: hold its spot and pull a small vignette together from one good vantage point.

Materials Pressed patinated metal with an applied Old-World antiqued finish — amber-gold and oxblood tones with verdigris-green worked into the recessed leaf motifs, foot, and rope-twisted handle.
Care Dust with a soft, dry cloth. Keep dry — this is a decorative vessel, not intended to hold water; use dried or faux stems only. Avoid moisture and harsh cleaners to protect the applied finish.

Some pieces are content to blend in. This one holds its corner. It stands 12.5 inches tall, an amphora-form ewer with a high pinched spout and an S-curved handle that rises and then scrolls into a stylized leaf-and-flourish finial — the kind of small flourish that rewards a second look. The body is fluted into panels, and the lower half carries a raised, repeating leaf-and-wheat motif that runs all the way around. Underneath, a gadrooned pedestal foot gives it a proper base to stand on. The finish is what makes it. It's an applied Old-World treatment — mottled amber-gold speckle laid over a deep oxblood-brown ground, with soft turquoise and verdigris green worked into the recessed motifs, down into the foot, and along the rope-twisted handle. It's a decorative faux-patina, done on purpose, the way old-world workshops built that weathered, ages-in-a-cellar look into a piece from the start. From a few feet away it does exactly what it means to: it reads like something that's seen a century or two. It came to us from a Hobbsville, North Carolina estate, and it earns its spot on a mantel, a bookshelf, or a sideboard. Set it where a little Old-World character is welcome — no filling required, and none advised. This is a decorative vessel, not a functional pitcher.
  • Form: Old-World amphora ewer — pinched pouring spout, scrolled leaf-and-flourish finial, gadrooned pedestal foot
  • Motif: Raised, repeating leaf-and-wheat sprig around the fluted lower body; rope-twisted handle
  • Finish: Applied decorative antiqued finish — amber-gold speckle over oxblood brown, with verdigris-green in the recesses (a deliberate faux-patina, not natural age)
  • Material: Pressed patinated metal; unmarked
  • Size: 12.5" tall, about 6" wide
  • Era / style: Contemporary, Old-World style
  • Use: Decorative only — not intended to hold water
Condition: Very good decorative condition. The applied finish is intact and even, with the distressed, mottled look built in by design. No dents, no losses, and the handle is solid. The hand-formed spout has a gently irregular rim — part of the way it was shaped, and part of its character.
